I don't work in marketing, so I can only imagine how accurate this video is. But I prefer to imagine that this is how it all happens. For instance, though not as cluttered, I'm guessing it was some kind of groupthink that came up with the lame logo for the London 2012 Olympic Games (right, click to enlarge). Do you think Sebastian Coe is fake-smiling, or grimacing like the logo hurts more than the last 100m of a half-mile race?
